DONE DEAL: Sunderland sign Chelsea defender

Sunderland have completed the £8million signing of Chelsea defender Papy Djilobodji.

The defender moves to the Stadium of Light after spending just one season at Stamford Bridge, where he made just one start for the club.

Upon joining, the 27-year old said:

Im so happy to be playing in Sunderland and I believe that we are going to do something this year.

Sunderland is a big club, a big team, with a big fan [base] and we are going to do our best to give the fans what they deserve.

He spent the second half of last season at Bundesliga club Werder Bremen where he was in impressive form, prompting Sunderland to pay more than double the fee that Chelsea paid to bring the Senegalese to the Premier League last summer.
