Done Deal: Real confirm Hernandez signing

Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of Theo Hernandez on a six-year long contract. The deal is worth around €3o million.

Hernandez spent last season on loan at Alaves and impressed many. He also scored in the Copa Del Rey final against Barcelona. The French left-back didn’t play a single minute of senior football for Atletico, but did represent the club’s U-19 team. The player is considered to be a strong dribbler and crosser of the ball among other strengths.

The 19-year-old was linked to numerous other clubs like Manchester City and apparently Barcelona too. His brother Lucas, is a starter for Atletico but didn’t try too hard to keep Theo at the club.

The player and the deal itself, has been subject to widespread criticism from the Atletico Madrid faithful, calling him a traitor. Theo is no stranger to controversy, as he was accused of sexual assault last month.

Hernandez signed a new contract with Atletico which increased his release clause up to €24million last summer.

Real issued a statement on their website which said:

“The player will be presented next Monday, 10 July at 7:30 pm, in the presidential box at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, after undergoing the corresponding medical examination. Later, Theo Hernández will step out on to the pitch at the Santiago Bernabéu for the first time in the Real Madrid shirt and will speak to the media in the press room.”

Atletico revealed that Theo had turned down a contract and expressed his desire to join Real numerous times. They also revealed that the player rejected deals from other clubs including Man City.

So what do you think of this deal? Do you think he’s a traitor? Or do you think its the right step in his career? Let us know down below.
