DONE DEAL: Morata leaves Chelsea for Atletico Madrid

Alvaro Morata has completed his move from Chelsea to Atletico Madrid according to sources in Italy.

The Spaniard only arrived in the Premier League in 2017, making a £58 million move from Real Madrid, and got off to a fine start to life in England, netting six goals in his first six outings.

However, his fortunes would rapidly go downhill, scoring just a further five top flight goals all season as he struggled to cope with the rigours of the English game.

Now, according to reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Spain international has completed a move back to his homeland, joining Real Madrid’s bitter rivals Atletico Madrid, in a deal thought to be worth around £44 million.

While not officially confirmed, the move is a strong indication that Gonzalo Higuain’s rumoured move to Chelsea is also in the final stages, with both deals set to be announced in the coming days.

Higuain was expected in England late last week, but is now expected to arrive on Tuesday to complete the necessary medical and paperwork ahead of finalising a season-long loan deal from Juventus, having struggled to settle during his loan spell at AC Milan.

The Argentine has previously worked with Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri at Napoli, scoring a very impressive 36 goals in 35 Serie A appearances. The Italian will be hoping for a similar return during his time at Stamford Bridge, having watched his side drop eight points in their last six Premier League outings, with Arsenal and Manchester United closing the gap to just three points.
