Bundesliga club Schalke 04 have confirmed the signing of Swiss striker Breel Embolo from FC Basle, despite interest from Manchester United.

The 18-year old was thought to be moving to Old Trafford after Red Bull Leipzig pulled out of deal, claiming the striker was set to sign for Manchester United.

However, talks between the club and the player are believed to have never got past the preliminary stages, leaving Schalke a clear run to snap up the striker.

Schalke have paid a reported €25million for the striker, who has signed a five-year deal at the club.

Embolo has wasted no time in securing his future after Switzerland were eliminated from Euro 2016 yesterday, losing 5-4 on penalties to Poland.
