Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen has completed a season long loan deal to Serie A club Roma.
The 30-year old moves to the Stadio Olimpico after sliding further down the pecking order at the Nou Camp following the arrival of French defender Samuel Umtiti, who impressed during France’s Euro 2016 campaign.
The former Arsenal centre back moved to Barcelona back in 2014 but a serious injury limited him to just one appearance in his debut campaign. He has since gone on to make 20 appearances for the Spanish club, scoring one goal.
The defender has been linked with making a return to the Gunners this summer, but has instead confirmed his departure from Barcelona, and has completed a one-year loan deal to Roma, which includes an option to buy the Belgian next summer.
