Disappointment for top-six as star signs for German giants

Members of the Premier League’s top six have been dealt a blow today when it was revealed that Schalke star Leon Goretzka has signed a pre-contract agreement with Bayern Munich, according to Sky Sports.

Rumours surrounding the talented midfielder’s future have been dominating the headlines for the last few months with all of England’s top clubs; Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs all having registered an interest in securing his services when his contract with Schalke expires in June.

Goretzka is an all-round midfielder and has been in superb form in the Bundesliga this season. He has also become a regular in Joachim Low’s Germany side, and is expected to play a key role in their bid to regain the World Cup in Russia this summer.

Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid had also shown an interest in the player, and it had seemed at one stage that Jurgen Klopp had convinced his 22-year-old countryman to move to Anfield. However, Schalke manager Christian Heide announced today that the player has signed a pre-contract agreement with Bayern and will move there in June.

The Bavarian giants have developed a reputation for snaring their rivals best young talents away from them, and with the signing of Goretzka – Germany’s most highly rated young talent – their domination of the Bundesliga shows no sign of stopping.
