Riyad Mahrez’s move to Manchester City has sensationally collapsed this afternoon.
The Premier League leaders were linked with a huge move for the 2016 PFA Player of the Year on Tuesday evening, with reports suggesting a £60m bid had been made. Those initial reports seem to have been a little premature, but claims throughout todays transfer deadline day have claimed that City have made up to four offers.
The final offer was a £65m player plus cash deal, with Leicester suggesting the player in question.
However, Manchester City have now withdrawn their interest in the Algerian after it became clear that they would not be able to match Leicester’s valuation of £95m.
The withdrawal puts Mahrez in a difficult situation, after handing in a transfer request yesterday. He also didnt turn up for training, nor did he travel with the squad to face Everton in tonight’s Premier League fixture, something which has left his Leicester teammates angry.
Whether this deal can be resurrected in the last few hours is yet to be seen.
