Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed the news that all Manchester United fans will want to hear, that the club is ‘making progress’ with Anthony Martial and David de Gea’s contract talks.

Both players contracts were due to expire this summer, although Manchester United have exercised a clause in their deals to extend them by a further 12 months, keeping them at the club until 2020.

Both players have, however, been linked with leaving Old Trafford in recent years, with Martial in particular enduring a strained relationship with former United boss Jose Mourinho.

With Mourinho now gone, a feel-good factor has returned to the Theatre of Dreams, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer steering his side on a seven-game winning streak, and doing so playing a more attacking brand of football.

While Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford have been the standout players under the Norwegian, Martial also looks like being a key player once more, starting five of the seven games that Solskjaer has taken charge of.

There have been reports in recent weeks that both De Gea and Martial are close to committing their long-term futures to the club, and with Solkskjaer ready to renew FA Cup hostilities with Arsenal on Friday night, the Red Devils’ caretaker boss has confirmed that contract talks are finally progressing.

“I think the club is making progress, yeah, but I leave that to the right people to do that,” Solskjaer told his pre-match press conference.

“I don’t really know how far away from it [we are] but hopefully we can have some good news in the coming weeks.”
