De Gea: ‘I’m really, really happy at Man Utd’

Manchester United fans can breathe a huge sigh of relief as David de Gea has admitted that he is ‘really, really happy’ at Manchester United.

The United goalkeeper has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid for a number of years, coming close to making the £25m transfer to the Bernabeu in 2015, before it was halted by the infamous fax machine. He subsequently signed a new four year deal at Old Trafford, which currently has 18 months remaining.

It had been thought that Real Madrid had finally given up hope of signing De Gea, with Athletic Bilbao’s Kepa Arrizabalaga their new first choice target, but the ‘keeper stunned Los Blancos last week by signing a new deal with the Basque club.

That decision has seen Real Madrid once again linked with moves for David de Gea and Chelsea ‘keeper Thibaut Courtois. However, in an interview with Premier League productions, De Gea has said that he is very happy at Manchester United. He said:

“When you think I’m in my seventh season now, I’m really, really happy with all my time here. A lot has happened, you know, mostly all really good. One or two things not quite so good, but I’m very happy.

“I came here as a kid and I’m a man now both on and off the field. From a football point of view and in my own life as well. Looking back, it’s been seven fantastic years.”

The Spaniard is currently leading the race for the Premier League’s Golden Glove award, keeping 14 clean sheets so far this season.
