Good news Manchester United fans! David De Gea is set to disappoint Real Madrid once again and stay at Manchester United according to The Times.
The report claims that talks surrounding a new £220,000-a-week deal have progressed significantly in the last few weeks, and he is close to committing his long term future to the club.
De Gea has frequently stated how happy he is at Manchester United, however that has not stopped the speculation linking him with a move to Real Madrid.
He was of course linked with a return to the Spanish capital in in 2015, but the infamous ‘faulty fax machine’ saw the deal break down at the 11th hour, prompting the ‘keeper to sign a new contract.
That contract has just 18 months left to run, but the new contract that is on offer will make De Gea the highest-paid keeper in football.
Real Madrid were thought to be interested in Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in January, but were left disappointed when the youngster signed a new contract with the Basque club with an £80 million release clause.
This could lead Los Blancos to make Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois their number one target as they look to make a statement signing in their goalkeeping department.
