David Moyes has long-term plans in mind for Everton as he looks to “rebuild” the beleaguered Premier League club.
Sean Dyche was relieved of his duties as manager just hours before the FA Cup third round tie against Peterborough United, which they won 2-0, on Thursday.
With just one win from their previous 11 games in all competitions, the Toffees sit a single point about the relegation zone. The Friedkin Group (TFG), which bought Everton last month, moved quickly to replace Dyche with a familiar face.
Moyes returns to Goodison Park almost 12 years after his first stint. He spent 11 years in the hot seat, during which time the club broke into the top four, regularly qualified for Europe and reached an FA Cup final.

The Scot’s immediate goal is to avoid relegation to the Championship, but he is not arriving back on Merseyside as a quick fix until the end of the season. Instead, he will lead the club into their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock having signed a two-and-a-half year deal.
“It’s great to be back! I enjoyed 11 wonderful and successful years at Everton and didn’t hesitate when I was offered the opportunity to rejoin this great club,” said Moyes.
“I’m excited to be working with The Friedkin Group and I am looking forward to helping them rebuild the club.
“Now we need Goodison and all Evertonians to play their part in getting behind the players in this important season so we can move into our fabulous new stadium as a Premier League team.”
Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho had been linked with the job but TFG felt Moyes was the man to “build the foundation” for the future.
“We are pleased that David is joining us at this pivotal time in Everton’s history,” said Executive Chairman Marc Watts.
“With over a decade of experience at the club, he is the right leader to propel us through our final season at Goodison Park and into our new stadium. We look forward to working with David to build the foundation of a new era for Everton.”
