Darmian confirms he still wants to leave Manchester United, despite injury problems

Matteo Darmian has announced that he still wants to leave Manchester United, despite a mini injury crisis taking shape for the Old Trafford club.

Darmian has been linked with a return to Italy this summer, with Jose Mourinho confirming last week that the Italian wanted to leave the club after he only made five appearances in the Premier League last season.

However, first choice Manchester United right-back Antonio Valencia has picked up an injury in pre-season training, while new signing Diego Dalot will not be fit until September after signing for the Red Devilโ€™s despite carrying an injury.

Despite the lack of options available to Jose Mourinho for the season opener against Leicester in just two weeks time, Darmian has revealed that it is still his intention to leave the club this summer:

“I don’t think the injury of Antonio is a big injury. I don’t know how long he needs to stay out, but at the moment he is the captain, he’s first choice,” Darmian said told ESPN.

“I want to play more regularly. Last season, I didn’t play much — that’s my objective and my ambition. That’s why I spoke with the manager and also with the club about my future.

“I want to leave but we will see what happens because we don’t know.”
