Last season, Burnley outdid themselves with a 7th-place finish in the Premier League. Sean Dyche’s team was known for its solid defensive setup and they were very, very tough to beat.
Just 11 games into this season, Burnley are down in 15th position and, more surprisingly, they have the second-worst defensive record, conceding just four goals less than Fulham at the moment.
Dyche spoke of Burnley’s defensive issues at his press conference today and their immediate need to find a resolution.
“I think we’ve just conceded a lot of goals so whether they’re early or late is irrelevant,” said Dyche.
“It’s just about making sure we get back to that tight group tactically that prevents teams from having those opportunities.”
Dyche is not throwing in the towel just yet and he expects the same resilience from his players.
“Historically we’ve responded well to the challenges that have been put in front of us. It’s probably the first time when we’ve had an indifferent period for a bit of a length of time.
“We’ve got to correct it because games are coming up and they’re games against teams that are more winnable.”
