Crystal Palace set to win the race to sign Batshuayi

On a day of little drama, the future of Michy Batshuayi looks like being the biggest drama of transfer deadline day with Crystal Palace looking like winning the race for his signature.

The Belgian has been linked with potential moves to West Ham, Everton, Spurs, and Real Betis throughout the day, but with less than one hour to go, he is still officially a Chelsea player.

Early deadline day reports strongly linked the former Marseille striker with a move to West Ham or Real Betis on loan, and both sides are believed to have agreed terms with Chelsea to sign the striker, only for them to pull out due to the striker’s wage demands of around £170,000-a-week.

Then was rumours linking him with Everton, although they were pretty brief. Despite having being linked for weeks, reports this afternoon said that the Toffees had ‘no intention’ of making a move. So that’s the end of that one then?

Then, the striker was linked with a move to Spurs. This time, while the North London club were able to match Batshuayi’s wage demands, Chelsea were not happy about loaning him to a Premier League rival, and demanded a loan fee of £8 million for his services, four times more than what they had previously agreed with West Ham.

Now, in further developments, Crystal Palace are looking to win the race, with Sky Sports claiming that they have agreed a deal to sign the Belgian on loan, even though they previously reported the deal would be on a permanent basis.

This is probably going to be ‘that’ transfer that will need the use of the infamous deal sheet and will still go right to the wire.

At least there has been some kind of drama on what otherwise been a miserable January transfer window.
