Crystal Palace formally make a move for Man Utd outcast Van de beek

Crystal Palace have submitted an offer to sign Donny van de Beek on loan, but the Eagles face competition from several clubs for the Manchester United midfielder.

Van de Beek wants to leave the Red Devils in search of regular first-team football with the midfielder having started just four Premier League fixtures – none of which have come this season – since signing from Ajax in 2020.

The 24-year-old has lost his place in the Netherlands squad as a result and is keen to regain his place ahead of the World Cup later this year, with Palace having made an offer to sign the midfielder on loan for the remainder of the season.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that the Eagles have made a straight loan bid for Van de Beek and United will demand the player’s wages are paid in full before sanctioning a deal.

The deal will not include an option to buy, as United want to see how Van de Beek figures in the plans of their next permanent manager as the club continue to assess candidates for the role.

Van de Beek has featured for just 69 minutes across eight substitute appearances in the Premier League this season and a move to Selhurst Park could prove him with a chance to revive his stalling career.

The Dutchman arrived as a highly-coveted talent in a £35m deal from Ajax, having scored 41 goals in 175 appearances since coming through the ranks at the Eredivisie side.

He was subject of interest from Everton last summer, but the Toffees were unable to agree a loan deal in the closing stages of the window.

Van de Beek’s former manager at Ajax, Erik Ten Hag is one of the men said to be in the frame for the job at Old Trafford next season.
