Philippe Coutinho is set to stay at Liverpool until at least next summer according to reports.
Coutinho has of course been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona in recent months, with Barcelona thought to have tabled a £120million bid in the summer for the Brazilian. However, Liverpool were adamant that their star player was not for sale and managed to hold onto the playmaker, despite him handing in a transfer request in an attempt to try to force the move.
According to Spanish Football expert Guillem Balague, Liverpool are prepared to take the same stance during next months transfer window.
The Spanish journalist is one of the most widely recognisable names from the world of Spanish football, often getting inside information from La Liga sides. In his weekly column for Sky Sports, Balague answered a question regarding Coutinho’s Liverpool future, to which he responded:
“Liverpool’s stance is the same, meaning right now they don’t want to negotiate with Barcelona. They are not sitting down with Barcelona and are not setting a price for him.
“In the summer, it will be a different story, but they have no intention of selling him right now.”
Despite the speculation surrounding his future, Coutinho has still produced some excellent football this season, which included him grabbing a hat-trick in last week’s Champions League game against Spartak Moscow.
