The tranfer window has been one full of turbulence for Chelsea with the Blues sacking Antonio Conte amid much speculation on his future as well as losing arguably their most consistent perfomer over the last few years, Thibaut Courtois, to Read Madrid for a mere £32 million.
There is no doubt that Courtois’ actions over the last few days have left Chelsea fans fuming. The Belgian had failed to show up for training in a bid to force through a move to Madrid and on Wednesday night he finally got his wish when Chelsea managed to strike a deal with Madrid.
Even though Courtois’ exit may have left a bitter taste in the fans mouth, it seems now the Belgian may be prepared to offer an olive branch to the Chelsea faithful.
Speaking in a video posted on Facebook, Courtois said: “I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for the four fantastic years that have passed. Chelsea will always have a special place in my heart.
“I was very happy to be part of one of the biggest teams in the world. I fulfilled a childhood dream playing in the Premier League.
“A huge thank you to all my team-mates and the technical staff, who I shared success and amazing moments with. I want to thank the fans for their great support. I hope you understand that being close to my kids was considerable in my decision.”
Courtois ended his goodbye with: “I wish you all the best for the future. It was a great honour to be part of the CFC family.”
Even though Chelsea has arguably lost one of the best goalkeepers in the world, new signing Kepa looks promising and with a bit of grooming could very well develop into the next Thibaut Courtois.
