Conte: ‘Morata is 100% fit’

Alvaro Morata is 100% fit ahead of Chelsea’s crunch clash with Tottenham at the weekend according to Antonio Conte.

The striker had a brilliant start to the campaign, scoring eight goals in his first nine games for the club. Since then though, the goals have dried up, and he has only just scored his first goal of 2018, scoring in the 2-1 FA Cup win over Leicester two weeks ago, his first goal since Boxing Day.

Not only has the Spaniard been out of form, but he has had a few injuries too, which saw him left out of a number of big games for the Blues, including in games against Man City and Barcelona. He was also left out of the Spain squad for their recent internationals, ironically being replaced by the man he replaced at Chelsea, Diego Costa.

However speaking ahead of Sunday’s crucial top four chasing clash against Tottenham, Antonio Conte has claimed that Morata is in good shape.

“This period for Alvaro was very important,” said Conte.

“In the last week he has worked very well. I think he needed to work hard because he was out for one month for his back problem.

“Now he’s really fit, 100 per cent. He’s ready for an important final of the season for Chelsea and then for the chance to play in the World Cup.”

Chelsea know that a victory against Spurs will take them within two points of the top four, while a defeat will see them slide eight points behind with just seven games to go.
