Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has admitted that he wants to strengthen his squad in January, although he expects the transfer window to be a difficult time for the club.
As usual Chelsea have been linked with a whole host of potential transfer targets, as look to close the gap on league leaders Manchester City.
Speaking on the eve of his sides clash with Everton Conte said:
“A difficult period is starting for every player and coach. There are a lot of rumours in this period. Some are true, while some are wrong. We must be ready to face this situation. I think the best way for me is don’t read and only to chat with the club.”
Then we’d like to try and improve the squad if this is possible. There are a lot of rumours now and we must be ready to face these. We must also be ready to be focused and play game by game. We have to play every three days and we can’t let these rumours disturb us.”
It is in attacking areas in particular that Conte is eager to bring in reinforcements with the experienced Italian concerned with the lack of top-quality cover for £70 million striker Alvaro Morata.
Chelsea’s manager and the clubs board were at loggerheads during the summer transfer window, so it will be interesting to see if the former Juventus coach is able to sign his first choice targets this time around.
