Confirmed: Sanchez and Mkhitaryan WILL both be eligible to play in Europe

With the swap deal between Arsenal and Manchester United that will Alexis Sanchez move to Old Trafford and Henrikh Mkhitaryan move to The Emirates edging closer today, it has now been revealed by Sky Sports that both players will be eligible to represent their new clubs in European competition this season.

Although Sanchez has played for Arsenal in the Europa League and Henrikh Mkhitaryan has featured for United in the Champions League already this campaign, UEFA rules confirm that new signings can actually play in another European competition providing that they have not played in the same competition for another club.

The rules do however, prohibit a player playing in a competition if the club he has moved from are in it, so if The Gunners do sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the Gabon international will not be able to play in the Europa League as his current club Borrusia Dortmund will compete in that competition after being knocked out of the Champions League in the group stages.

The Sanchez and Mkhitaryan transfer has been the story dominating all the headlines over recent days, and both players have travelled to their prospective new clubs today to have their medicals, meaning the deals should be finalised within the next 24-48 hours.
