Chelsea sit fourth in the Premier League table heading into Sunday’s trip to the Emirates Stadium, with a win over Arsenal the chance to move above their hosts.
Xabi Alonso’s side have scored 12 goals in their first two matches, more than any other club in the division. Alonso addressed the club’s deadline-day business, including Enzo Fernandez’s £125m move to Manchester City: “We take all the decisions together… What he has done for the club has been great, but now it’s time to move forward. We have players with quality in every position and now we are ready to go.”
Chelsea team news
Moises Caicedo is a doubt after aggravating a previous injury during his substitute appearance against Brighton, with Alonso confirming a final decision would come after Saturday’s training: “We will check tomorrow. Tomorrow is the last decision for the squad on Sunday.” Jordan Henderson remains out with a wrist injury, though Alonso said he is “getting closer and closer to playing time,” while Marco Palestra is also unavailable.
Malo Gusto and Romeo Lavia are set to continue as Chelsea’s central midfield pairing following Fernandez’s exit, after a proposed deadline-day deal for Monaco’s Lamine Camara collapsed. Alonso also highlighted Valentin Barco’s “great energy” and Henderson’s “composure and mentality” as options should changes be needed. Cole Palmer, in outstanding early-season form, could register his 50th Premier League goal for Chelsea in what would be his 99th appearance for the club.
