Chelsea are weighing up a bid to sign Fabian Ruiz from Paris Saint-Germain as Xabi Alonso looks to add a midfielder to his side.
Alonso has made the signing of a midfielder his focus, amid the departure of Andrey Santos for Manchester United and Romeo Lavia’s fitness record.
Chelsea are understood to be exploring a move for Arsenal’s Martin Zubimendi, a player Alonso knows from former club Real Sociedad, while The Guardian claim Ruiz is another option.
The West Londoners are reportedly ready to table an offer of around €60m (£51.3m) for the 30-year-old, who has been a prominent part of Paris Saint-Germain’s back-to-back Champions League wins. He was also part of the Spain squad that won the 2026 World Cup this summer, making eight appearances.
However, prising the player from Paris will be difficult with Ruiz happy at the Parc des Princes, having recently agreed terms on a new deal.
Chelsea’s search for a midfielder continues amid doubts over Enzo Fernandez’s future. The Argentina international has been linked with Manchester City, with former Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca open to a reunion.
