Chelsea want £34million Euro 2016 champion

Chelsea are interested in signing Portuguese forward Joao Mario this summer according to reports.

Antonio Conte officially started work at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground yesterday, and has immediately got his plans underway to start restructuring the 2014/15 Premier League champions.

Chelsea followed up their title win with a tenth placed finish last season, leaving Antonio Conte to asses the scale of the rebuilding job required at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have already completed the £33million signing of Michy Batshuayi, and are now planning to rival Inter Milan for the signature of Sporting Lisbon forward Joao Mario.

The Portugal forward capped a fine season by lifting the European Championship crown on Sunday after he was involved in the 1-0 win over tournament hosts France.

The 23-year old has a release clause of £51million in his contract with the Portuguese club, but it is thought they would be willing to do business at around £34million.

Chelsea are not alone in the chase for Mario’s signature, with Inter Milan also thought to be interested, whilst Manchester United have also been linked with making a move
