Chelsea are unlikely to sign a new goalkeeper during the January transfer window despite rumours surrounding a move to sign Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale.
Robert Sanchez is set for a spell on the sidelines at Chelsea and the Spaniard’s absence has increased speculation that a replacement could be sought when the transfer window opens next month.
Ramsdale has been named as a potential option for Chelsea, having lost his status as first-choice goalkeeper at Arsenal this season. The England international has made just four league appearances since the arrival of David Raya on loan from Brentford in the summer.
Ramsdale is keen to regain a regular role as he looks to secure his place in the England squad for Euro 2024. Newcastle are also said to be considering the 25-year-old, with Nick Pope out for an extended period with a shoulder problem.
However, Chelsea are unlikely to sign a goalkeeper in January according to the Evening Standard, with Djordje Petrovic set for a run in the side. The Serbian international was signed from New England Revolution in a £14m deal last summer and started in the 2-0 win over Sheffield United at the weekend.
Chelsea are confident that Petrovic can perform in the absence of Sanchez, while the West Londoners retain faith in Marcus Bettinelli as third-choice goalkeeper.
Mauricio Pochettino will instead focus on improving other areas of his team, with Chelsea linked with signing a centre-forward when the January window opens.
