Chelsea are to rival Manchester United and Liverpool as they look to sign two more defenders this summer.
The Blues have been looking to strengthen a number of areas in their squad, including centre back and in both full back positions.
Reports suggest Chelsea will rival Manchester United to the signing of PSG right back Serge Aurier. United are claimed to have agreed personal terms with the Frenchman, but are awaiting the outcome of a legal appeal, after he assaulted a police officer outside of a Paris nightclub last year. That charge saw him denied entry to the UK for PSG’s Champions League group stage game against Arsenal last season.
However after missing out on Kyle Walker and Danilo, both to Manchester City, they have seemingly turned their attentions to Aurier.
They are also being linked with rivalling Liverpool to the signing of Virgil van Dijk from Southampton. The defender submitted a written transfer request to the Saints yesterday.
As part of a statement released yesterday, van Dijk admitted his aim was to play European football again, and he has ‘been left frustrated by the clubs position that he is not for sale’
Liverpool have been heavily linked with making a move, and were even reported to the Premier League by the Saints for making an illegal approach for the defender.
Chelsea are believed to be hoping to take advantage of the soured relationship in order to sneak in and sign Van Dijk.
Antonio Conte has been left frustrated after missing out on other targets too. Romelu Lukaku moved to Manchester United, while Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has announced that Alex Sandro is not for sale.
