With Chelsea’s hopes of reaching next season’s UEFA Champions League in tatters, the Blues want to add new leaders to their squad.
Chelsea ran away with the Premier League title last season in Antonio Conte’s first full season at the club, but found it much more difficult this time round. They currently sit in fifth place, with Sunday’s defeat to Tottenham leaving them eight points behind the race for the top four with just seven games to play.
The Blues seem to have a lack of leadership within their squad, especially since the departure of long-term captain, John Terry, who finally left the club last summer.
However, one year after the former England international left the club, Chelsea are being linked with a player being dubbed as ‘the next John Terry.’
According to the Daily Mirror, they are interested in signing Newcastle captain and central defender Jamaal Lascelles.
They claim that the West London club are preparing a £30 million move for the 24-year-old this summer in order to land the former Nottingham Forest defender.
Despite initially struggling for the Magpies, Lascelles has developed into a fine defender as well as a leader at the back under Rafa Benitez.
