Chelsea are willing to allow Thibaut Courtois to leave the club for free. This is according to a report in the Sun on Sunday today.

The goalkeeper has just one-and-a-half years left on his current deal at Stamford Bridge, where he has already been offered a new contract, but he has so far rejected all of the club’s advances as he wants financial parity with the best goalkeepers in the world.

European champions Real Madrid have long been rumoured to be interested in signing the Belgian, who of course spent three successful years on loan at their Madrid neighbours, Atletico.

Despite plenty of rumours suggesting Los Blancos will make a move for the Chelsea ‘keeper, the report suggests the Blues would prefer to lose him for free in 2019 rather than cash in on him in a similar situation to that surrounding Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez at Arsenal.

Real Madrid have also been linked with fellow goalkeepers David de Gea from Manchester United and Athletic Bilbao’s Kepa Arrizabalaga as potential replacements for current number one, Keylor Navas.
