Chelsea are the front runners to sign Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski according to reports.
Chelsea are one of those clubs that always seem to have problems with their strikers, whether it be Hernan Crespo, Anrdriy Shevchenko, Fernando Torres or Diego Costa – there’s always a problem in some way, shape or form.
The Blues hoped they had solved their long term problem in the summer with the £58 million signing of Alvaro Morata, and while he was an instant hit in the Premier League, the goals have seemingly dried up for the Spaniard.
He was joined by Olivier Giroud in January, although both strikers were were forced to start on the bench last week against Barcelona, with Eden Hazard, a player who has since admitted he doesn’t like playing through the middle, asked to do just that.
Now, according to The Sun, Chelsea are keen to sign Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski, and are leading Manchester United and Real Madrid in the chase for his signature.
He is thought to be excited by the prospect of a fresh challenge having spent eight years in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund and Bayern, with the feeling growing that this could be his final year in Germany.
To add further intrigue to the situation, his wife Anna was spotted on a shopping trip in London last week, fuelling specialtion of a move to Chelsea.
Chelsea were put to the sword by their former striker and last summer’s transfer target Romelu Lukaku, who scored a goal and set up the winner as Manchester United beat them 2-1 a three Old Trafford on Sunday, pushing the Blues outside of the top four behind Tottenham.
