Chelsea target Brentford duo Toney and Raya

Chelsea are planning a summer raid on Brentford with the club interested in deals to sign Ivan Toney and David Raya.

Chelsea are preparing for a new era with the west Londoners close to finalising the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino ahead of next season and will look to improve the squad with additions at either end of the pitch.

Football.London are reporting that Toney and Raya are two names on Chelsea’s summer wish list, with the Brentford pair having shone during an impressive season for the Bees. Toney has scored 19 league goals for Thomas Frank’s side and was rewarded with an England debut in March.

The 27-year-old has 31 goals in 63 Premier League games since Brentford’s promotion to the top flight and would add cutting edge to a Chelsea team that has struggled this season.

The Blues have scored just 30 goals from their 32 league fixtures – less than Erling Haaland has managed alone for Manchester City – with only four teams having managed less.

Brentford goalkeeper Raya is also on Chelsea’s radar and is expected to leave the Bees this summer. The Spain international will enter the final 12 months of his deal at the end of the season and has turned down a new contract.

Thomas Frank discussed Raya’s future earlier this season and said it would take an offer in excess of £40m to sign the 27-year-old, who has also been linked with Manchester United and Tottenham. Brentford, however, run the risk of losing Raya on a free transfer in 2024.
