After months of speculation, Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has dropped the biggest hint that he is set to commit his future to the club.
The Belgian has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge for a number of months, with a move to Real Madrid having been mooted. It is thought that he is one of Los Blancos’ top targets this summer alongside Man Utd’s David de Gea.
Courtois’ situation is made all the more interesting with the fact that his children live in the Spanish capital, where he has previously spent three years on loan at Atletico Madrid.
However, speaking to the London Evening Standard, Courtois declared that he is committed to the club:
“I’m committed to Chelsea. I have a contract until next year and I will be here. I will do my best for it,” he said.
“Obviously there is no extension signed but I don’t think now is the moment to do it. I think it is better to wait until the end of the season. All I can say is I’m committed to Chelsea and also committed for next year.”
When pushed if he was guaranteeing he will remain at Chelsea, he added: “I have no other thing to say. It’s easy when you have only one year remaining that other people might say something.
“I’m a bit annoyed by it because it’s a talking point and it’s a thing people went to dwell on.
“But I think the focus now should be on winning our League games to get a top four finish and back in the Champions League for next season as well as going through in the FA Cup.
“That’s the most important thing and is what we have to do as a group and for myself as well.”
It has been a difficult week for Courtois who was at fault for two of Barcelona’s goals in the recent Champions League defeat in the Camp Nou.
