Chelsea star admits winning FA Cup ‘not enough’ to save season

Chelsea slipped to a disappointing 1-1 home draw to London rivals West Ham yesterday to finally extinguish any faint hopes they had of making the top four this season.

The Blues have put in one of the worst Premier League title defences on record this season, and now sit in fifth position in the table 10 points away from fifth placed Spurs with just six games remaining.

Although, Chelsea are still in the FA Cup and will face a struggling Southampton side on April 22 in the semi-final at Wembley.

However, speaking after his sides draw with West Ham defender Cesar Azpilicueta revealed his frustration with his teams performance and also admitted that even if the Stamford Bridge club go on to win the FA Cup this season will still be a failure.

“The FA Cup is a massive trophy with a lot of history but it’s not enough for us,”

“We will try to win it but the cup will not save our season.”

“What matters is the score at the end, I am frustrated today, we should be able to win this game.”

“We controlled the game, we created enough chances to win but we struggled at the end and maybe they could have scored the winner. It’s becoming harder and harder every game it goes on.”
