Chelsea have been told the club sold ‘something special’ after letting Tyrique George leave for Everton in the summer.
Chelsea sanctioned the sale of George to Everton for an initial fee of £18m in July, in a transfer that could rise to £24m with add-ons. Everton declined a £25m purchase option attached to the loan and negotiated a lower fee.
George spent the second half of last season on loan at Everton and struggled for minutes. He made only one league start across his 11 appearances, but has started the new season in impressive form.
The 20-year-old scored his first Everton goal during the club’s 2-2 draw with Manchester United in the Premier League last weekend, and has started all three league games for the Toffees this season.
The goal was the highlight of a standout performance from George, who led the game for successful dribbles (4) and chances created (3).
George made only one Premier League start for Chelsea after coming through the club’s academy ranks and ex-Everton striker Yakubu said the West Londoners have let a real talent leave the club.

Speaking to ToffeeWeb for the Once a Blue podcast, Yakubu said George has ‘something special’ and insisted ‘there’s a lot more to come’ from the winger.
“This kid is something special, you know. He’s something special. He can take someone on in one-v-one, he’s quick, he can create chances, he can shoot,” Yakubu said.
“I think both players can help the team, but this boy, he’s something special. He can take anyone on and we’re lucky to have him.
“We’re lucky to bring him back to help the team. I think with the way he’s playing now, with his confidence from scoring against Manchester United, it’s going to boost his confidence even more.
“I’m looking forward to watching him more. There’s a lot to come from this guy.”
