Chelsea set to enter race for Harry Maguire along with Spurs, Newcastle and West Ham

Chelsea are set to enter the race to sign Harry Maguire after the defender was stripped of the captaincy at Manchester United.

Maguire looks set to leave Manchester United this summer after falling out of favour under Erik ten Hag, with the centre-back’s removal as club captain reaffirming his lack of place in the manager’s plans.

Maguire took to social media to express his disappointment at the decision and now looks likely to move on after making just eight Premier League starts last season.

“After discussions with the manager today he has informed me he is changing captain,” Maguire wrote.

“He outlined his reasons to me and whilst I’m personally extremely disappointed, I will continue to give my all every time I wear the shirt.

“So I wanted to say a massive thank you to the Manchester United fans for all their brilliant support whilst I’ve been wearing the armband. Since the day I took on the role, three and a half years ago, it’s been a huge privilege to lead Manchester United and one of the proudest moments of my career to date. It’s one of the greatest honours in club football.”

According to The Sun, Chelsea have emerged as a potential destination for the 30-year-old, who could be available for a fee of around £30m.

Chelsea have allowed Kalidou Koulibaly to leave for The Saudi Pro League and could target Maguire as another experienced option, alongside Thiago Silva, to compliment Benoit Badiashile, Wesley Fofana and Levi Colwill next season.

Tottenham, Newcastle and West Ham have also been linked with interest set to increase following Maguire’s removal as captain at Old Trafford.
