Chelsea set £40m price tag for in-demand Delap

Chelsea want between £35m and £40m for Liam Delap this summer as Premier League rivals chase the striker's signature.

Chelsea want between £35m and £40m for Liam Delap this summer as Premier League rivals chase the striker’s signature.

Delap is free to leave Chelsea if a suitable offer arrives after a disappointing debut campaign at Stamford Bridge. The 23-year-old scored just twice in 41 appearances across all competitions, following his £30m arrival from Ipswich Town.

Despite that return, Chelsea are demanding a profit on Delap this summer. The Blues signed Delap with the help of a relegation release clause 12 months ago, and believes the forward is worth between £35m and £40m.

According to the iPaper, Everton, Nottingham Forest and Leeds United are leading the chase. Everton held talks with Delap last summer, prior to his decision to join Chelsea, and remain keen on a deal.

Manchester United were former suitors of Delap but are understood to have rejected the chance to revive that interest this summer. United are seeking a forward to compete with Benjamin Sesko.

Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Danny Welbeck from Brighton, in a transfer that could pave the path for Delap’s exit. The West Londoners are also looking at solutions for Emmanuel Emegha, Nicolas Jackson, and Marc Guiu.
