Chelsea ‘open’ to Cucurella loan exit amid Manchester United interest

Chelsea are open to allowing Marc Cucurella to leave on loan after Manchester United enquired about the defender’s availability.

Injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have seen Manchester United enter the market for defensive reinforcements and the Red Devils have approached Chelsea about the prospect of taking Cucurella on loan.

The Spaniard has struggled to establish himself at Chelsea since arriving from Brighton and has fallen out of favour, with Ben Chilwell ahead of him in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans.

Chelsea also have Ian Maatsen and Levi Colwill as potential left-back options after the duo returned from loan spells and Fabrizio Romano is reporting that the Blues are open to Cucurella’s exit on the right conditions.

Chelsea will demand the defender’s salary is covered in full and a substantial loan fee, with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag set to make a decision on whether to pursue a deal.

Cucurella signed for Chelsea for a fee of £63m last summer, having impressed at Brighton to win the club’s Player of the Season award in 2021/22.
