Chelsea are the ‘only club’ in discussions with Brighton over a deal for Moises Caicedo at this stage.
Caicedo has been linked with a number of leading Premier League clubs after an excellent season at Brighton, with Arsenal having seen an offer for the 21-year-old turned down in January.
Manchester United and Liverpool have also been credited with monitoring the midfielder’s situation, but Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Chelsea are the ‘only club’ to have opened talks over a deal.
Chelsea have already agreed personal terms with the Ecuador international over a move to the club and Caicedo last week discussed his desire to complete a switch to Stamford Bridge.
“It’s a big team, that’s true,” Caicedo told TC Deportes on Chelsea’s interest.
“A very historic team which I can’t say no [to joining] because it’s a very big, historic, beautiful team. The city as well is beautiful. It’s got everything beautiful.”
The two teams remain in negotiations over a fee with Caicedo valued at upwards of £80m at the Amex Stadium.
Caicedo is Mauricio Pochettino’s leading transfer target as the Chelsea manager looks to reinforce his midfield, having seen his options depleted following the departures of N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount this summer.
