Chelsea on alert as Leipzig forward ‘could be on the move’

Chelsea are among the clubs on alert amid reports that Benjamin Sesko could leave RB Leipzig in the summer.

Sesko is being linked with an exit from the Bundesliga club after struggling for regular minutes this season, having arrived from Red Bull Salzburg for a fee of around €24m in the summer.

The 20-year-old has impressed despite his limited involvement, scoring nine times despite making only nine starts across all competitions.

His situation has placed a number of clubs on alert ahead of the summer window, with Chelsea among those who could consider Sesko, who has a reported release clause of €50m (£42.6m) in his contract at the Red Bull Arena. Manchester United have also previously been linked, while Arsenal are in the market for a striker this summer.

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Sesko ‘could be on the move’ in the summer and that ‘some big clubs’ are monitoring his situation. AC Milan, who were interested in Sesko before his move to Leipzig and are targeting a long-term replacement for Olivier Giroud, remain keen.

“Benjamin Sesko – he could be on the move and some big clubs are following him,” Romano said.

“Sesko has been linked with AC Milan but there’s no negotiation yet and many clubs are interested.”

Sesko’s agent, Elvis Basanović, said in November that Sesko and his team remained confident in his progress at Leipzig, though a lack of football over the second half of the season could prompt a change in stance.

“I get a lot of similar calls, questions in last period. So I would like to be clear that Benjamin and his team around him, we are totally calm and we trust 100% to Mr. Rose and RB Leipzig.

“We choose to come here as they have knowledge, experience with development of top young players, so we are sure they know what they are doing.”
