Manchester City are furious with Chelsea for signing highly rated midfielder Jorginho from Napoli, after it had looked certain that the Brazilian born player would be moving the Etihad just a few days ago.
According to the Manchester Evening News, City had agreed a £44 million deal with Napoli and the players representatives last week, and all that remained to be done was for Jorginho to pass a medical in Manchester.
However, Chelsea then offered the Italian side £53 for the midfielders’ services, although a part of this fee is thought to include £7 million in compensation that the Stamford Bridge club had to pay to Napoli for the release of their new coach Maurizio Sarri.
According to the report, Jorginho was said to have his heart set on linking up with the Premier League Champions Man City and their coach Pep Guardiola, but he is said to have been told by Napoli that if he was to reject Chelsea’s offer, he would be left to rot in the reserves for the remaining two years of his contract.
While Guardiola will be seriously disappointed to have missed out on his main midfield target, the club are now said to be looking to promote from within their squad instead of purchasing more midfield cover.
Jorginho will now link up with Sarri in West London and he will undoubtedly be one of the key components in the implementation of the Blues news coaches famed ‘Sarri Ball,’ tactics.
