Man City draw fills Chelsea with confidence ahead of Liverpool cup final

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher says the team are going into the EFL Cup final against Liverpool with confidence after getting a point against Manchester City.

Raheem Sterling scored upon returning to his old hunting ground to give the Blues a first-half lead at the Etihad Stadium.

Erling Haaland missed a host of chances on a frustrating night for the Premier League champions, but Rodri did find a late equaliser to keep Man City within four points of leaders Liverpool with a game in hand.

“We are slightly disappointed because we were winning the game,” Gallagher told Sky Sports. “They were, in terms of possession, dominating the game but I feel we had a lot of chances to win the game. We are disappointed to concede late but pleased with the point.

“We countered them well so I think it is a fair result in the end.

“I think we had a chance or two to get the second and we didn’t. But they had chances as well and it could have gone either way. We’ll take the point.”

Chelsea take on Liverpool at Wembley next Sunday as they seek the first silverware of the Mauricio Pochettino era.

“I feel like the lads are confident,” Gallagher said ahead of the final. “We have had some good performances, and then today against a top team. I feel like we are going into the next game with a lot of confidence and we are excited for it.”

Mauricio Pochettino says that Chelsea need to go into the final believing they can cause an upset given the daunting task that faces them.

“We need to feel that is is possible to beat Liverpool,” the Argentine said. “I think we are going to play the second best team in the world. I think belief is the most important thing and now we need to recover and prepare for the final.”
