Chelsea have opened talks with Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti according to reports today.
The Sun claim that Antonio Conte has identified his fellow Italian as a way to increase his creative options from midfield. He has relied on a midfield pairing of Nemanja Matic and N’Golo Kante this season, but with the additional rigours of Champions League football next season, Conte wants more depth to his squad.
He sees Verratti as an ideal player to provide both quality and depth to the Blues’ ranks.
However, the 24-year-old only signed a new deal with the French club in January, and is believed to happy at PSG, despite the French club being dethroned as Ligue 1 Champions by principality club, Monaco.
PSG are willing to cash in on the midfielder, who is valued at £55million, but it is believed that Verratti has reluctant to leave the French club, and is still hopeful of improving his current £120,000-a-week deal.
He is however weighing up the offer from Chelsea, but with concerns over the amount of play time he would get at the Premier League Champions. he is still hopeful of improving his current £120,000-a-week deal.
