Chelsea are looking to beat Manchester City to the signing of Jorginho after making a late bid.
Champions Man City are thought to have agreed a deal with the player regarding a potential move to the Premier League, although they do not yet have an agreement with his club Napoli, who are proving difficult to negotiate with.
City are thought to be willing to pay around £35 million for the Brazil born player, with a number of add ons being used to bring up the price, while Napoli are holding out for much nearer to £53m (€60m).
Chelsea romped to the 2016/17 Premier League title with a midfield of N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic, but when they allowed the Serbian to move to Manchester United last summer, they only replaced him Tiemoue Bakayoko and Danny Drinkwater, neither of whom have massively impressed at Stamford Bridge.
Another interesting factor of these rumours is Chelsea’s interest in appointing Maurizio Sarri as their new boss, with Antonio Conte widely expected to be relieved of his duties.
Sarri’s Napoli side were widely accredited with playing some of the best football in Europe last season, and narrowly missed out on the Serie A title to Juventus, despite picking up a very impressive 91 points. Jorginho was crucial to Napoli’s style of play, and Chelsea’s late interest could indicate that a move for Sarri is also edging closer.
