Chelsea keen on 20-year-old French forward

Chelsea are set to continue their rebuild of the club’s frontline with a move for Montpellier forward Elye Wahi.

Wahi is on the club’s radar after an excellent season in Ligue 1 with the 20-year-old having scored 19 league goals for Montpellier last season.

The France u21 international’s performances have attracted interest from Chelsea, PSG and Atletico Madrid, with The Athletic reporting that the former are ‘the most advanced’ in the race to sign the forward.

Wahi is keen to continue playing regular first-team football, increasing the probability that the French forward would be loaned out should he complete a move to Stamford Bridge.

Strasbourg – recently purchased by Chelsea’s co-owners and now under the management of Patrick Vieira – are seen as the likeliest destination with Chelsea also set to loan recent recruit Angelo Gabriel to the Ligue 1 side.

Montpellier are set to demand a fee of around €30m (£26m) for Wahi, who has scored 32 goals in 91 games since making his debut in 2020.

His impressive emergence saw Wahi become the second youngest player in Ligue 1 history to reach 25 goals in the competition last season, behind Kylian Mbappe.
