Chelsea have joined the race to sign Wilfred Zaha, and according to the bookmakers, are even favourites to secure his signature.
The Crystal Palace winger has rejected an improved contract at Selhurst Park in order to try and force a move to ‘a bigger club’ and has reportedly informed bosses at the club of his intention to leave.
Tottenham are thought to have been long-term admirers of the winger but have been put off by Palace’s £70 million valuation, while Borussia Dortmund and Everton are also thought to be keen on the Ivory Coast international.
Zaha sparked speculation over his future by posting “today is the day I make a change with everything” on his Instagram account, before later deleting the message, but not before it prompted speculation that a transfer could be edging closer.
Now, bookmakers have installed Chelsea as the favourites to sign the 25-year-old, with some bookmakers offering odds of 1/2 or swapping Selhurst Park for Stamford Bridge before the August 9 transfer deadline.
This news could add some credence to reports from Italy that have claimed Chelsea have accepted a £66 million bid for Willian from Manchester United, meaning Zaha could potentially be a direct replacement for the Brazilian.
While Zaha has was far from prolific last season, his influence on the Palace team was immeasurable, with his nine goals in his 29 appearances guiding the Eagles to safety after their nightmare start to the campaign under Frank de Boer.
