Chelsea made a £38million bid for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly earlier this week, but are still waiting for a response from the Serie A club.
Napoli’s reluctance to provide an answer to the Blues bid, has led to Antonio Conte look for alternative options as Chelsea look to bolster their defence.
One target is Torino defender Nikola Maksimovic who is rated £20million cheaper than Koulibaly, at just £18million. The Serbian centre-back has made 66 appearances for the club since joining from Red Star Belgrade in 2013.
Chelsea are not the only club tracking the 24-year old as West Ham are also believed to have an interest in signing the defender.
