Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has given the club a massive boost by stating that he expects himself and international team-mate Eden Hazard to sign new long-term contracts at Stamford Bridge in the near future.
In a interview featured in the London Evening Standard the 25-year-old said:
“It has just turned the new year, so we will wait a few weeks and then sit around the table. I’m happy at Chelsea and a deal is close.
“Do Eden and I encourage each other to sign? Yes. He will say ‘if you sign, I will sign’ and I say the same to him!
“I think we are both happy at Chelsea, we both have a good part to play. We have been champions twice in the four seasons I have been here and can have our peak years together at Chelsea.”
Both players have been the subject of intense transfer speculation over recent months, and the club’s hierarchy and fans had become fearful that they may lose the talented pair to Real Madrid.
Everybody related to Chelsea will now be delighted that the club look set to tie down the long-term futures of two of its most important and highly-rated players.
