Chelsea have explored the conditions of a possible deal to sign Julian Alvarez when holding talks with Atletico Madrid last Thursday in London.
Chelsea representatives met with Atletico Madrid to discuss a deal for Nicolas Jackson, with the Spanish side interested in the Senegalese striker.
During those discussions, Chelsea are understood to have broached the prospect of signing Alvarez, who has informed Atletico of his wish to leave.
The Argentina international wants to leave Atletico for Barcelona and was jeered by the Atleti fans during the 2-2 draw with Villarreal at the weekend. Alvarez has an agreement with Barcelona on personal terms, but Atletico do not want to sell to a La Liga rival.
According to journalist Nicolo Shira, Chelsea enquired about Alvarez last week, while Arsenal are also keen on a deal. Atletico’s interest in Jackson, who spent time in La Liga with Villarreal earlier in his career, could open up a potential deal.
However, any transfer would require Alvarez to change his stance on a Premier League return, with the ex-Man City striker focused on Barcelona.
