He is widely being touted as the best footballer in the Premier League, but Chelsea forward Eden Hazard does not believe he deserves to win the Ballon d’Or trophy this year.
Hazard enjoyed a fine World Cup with Belgium, where he helped to steer the Red Devils to the semi-finals, and has continued his form into the current Premier League campaign, scoring seven goals and providing three assists for Chelsea to date.
His form has seen some suggest that he is a strong contender to finally end the decade-long domination by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo of the famous Ballon d’Or trophy, although the 27-year-old thinks that there are more deserving candidates.
“Even though I had a very good year, I have to keep my feet on the ground,” Hazard told RTFB.
“I do not deserve the Ballon d’Or. I think there are players who have been better than me.
“Winning the Ballon d’Or is not a goal for me. If I win it one day, great. If I do not, it won’t be a problem.”
Chelsea return to action this weekend against London rivals Spurs, with the Blues currently sitting in third following their unbeaten start to the campaign
