Chelsea defender David Luiz has claimed that referee Kevin Friend laughed in his face when he complained about Burnley’s negative tactics during the sides 2-2 draw last night at Stamford Bridge.
Assistant coach Gianfranco Zola also admitted after the game that Chelsea were unhappy with Burnley’s approach to the game, and he felt Blues coach Maurizio Sarri’s sending off was harsh as the Italian coach was only trying to diffuse an on-pitch melee.
Luiz has revealed that Friend told him to ‘shut up and play the game,’ when he tried to voice his concerns over Burnley’s time-wasting tactics.
“It is difficult because when you see a referee even laugh in your face when you try to speak with him in a respectful way, it is not nice,” Luiz told chelseafc.com.
“When I was trying to speak with him he was never looking in my eyes and he was not trying to listen. He just said ‘I don’t want to listen to you. Shut up and play the game’.”
However, when you consider Luiz performed this ridiculous dive during last night’s game, it’s hard to see too many people having too much sympathy for the Brazilian centre-back.
