Chelsea are close to agreeing a new long-term contract with midfielder Moises Caicedo.
The West Londoners have been working on a new deal for Caicedo to secure the long-term future of the influential midfielder. An agreement is close to being finalised, according to Fabrizio Romano, with the deal set to run until 2033.
Caicedo has given the ‘green light’ to a contract extension with Chelsea with the player confident in the project at Stamford Bridge. The Ecuador international joined Chelsea from Brighton for a then-British record fee of £115m in 2023.
He has cemented a reputation as one of the Premier League’s best defensive midfielders at Chelsea, and leads the division for interceptions in 2025/26. Caicedo also ranks fourth for tackles won.
Earlier this month, Chelsea coach Liam Rosenior outlined his belief that Caicedo was the world’s best in his position.
“For me, Moises is one of the best defensive midfield players, if not the best defensive midfield player, in world football,” Rosenior said.
“That’s because of his intelligence, his physicality, his technical quality, and how he understands the game. He’s going to be huge for us on Sunday.”
