Chelsea changes expected with Gallagher to lead clear-out

Chelsea are set for another overhaul of their squad in the summer with Conor Gallagher set to lead the clear-out at Stamford Bridge.

The west London side have endured a disappointing campaign and sit ninth in the Premier League table, with the Blues facing an uphill task to secure European football for next season.

After an absence from continental competition during the current campaign, Chelsea could look to sell a number of players to ease their Premier League Profit and Sustainability (PSR) concerns and fund summer transfer business.

Conor Gallagher could lead the exodus, according to football.London, and Tottenham are interested in a deal to bring the England midfielder across the capital.

Gallagher has been a regular in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans this season and has captained the club on occasion, though will enter the final 12 months of his contract in the summer. As an academy graduate, his estimated price tag of around £50m would also count as complete profit on the Blues’ balance sheet.

That increased incentive to sell homegrown players also looks likely to lead to the departures of Lewis Hall, Trevoh Chalobah, Ian Maatsen and Armando Broja. The latter has failed to make an impact since joining Fulham on loan in January, though is expected to have a number of suitors in the summer.

Romelu Lukaku, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Hakim Ziyech will all likely leave on permanent deals after spending the current season out on loan, while Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr are expected to depart when their contracts expire. Offers will also be listened to for Marc Cucurella, who has disappointed since his £62m arrival from Brighton in 2022.
